Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah is an American musician and rapper. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born within Newark New Jersey. Latifahs parents split up after Latifah, then ten years was ten years old. Latifah went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey and was raised through the Baptist Church. Her stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was bestowed to her her cousin at the age of she was just eight years old. Latifah's height of 5'10" allowed her to be a formidable performer at high school. In her high school's play she performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah began beatboxing with the rap group Ladies Fresh. Latifah was member of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 king. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. The track caught the attention from Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who was signed by Latifah and released her debut track Wrath of My Madness.
